Handlung

Erzählt wird aus dem Leben des bekannten Cartoonist John Callahan. Er trägt eine Querschnittslähmung davon und ist auf den Rollstuhl angewiesen, als er betrunken mit seinem betrunkenen Freund Dexter am Steuer mit dem Auto schwer verunglückt. Bei der Reha im Krankenhaus lernt John die attraktive Schwedin Annu kennen. In der Gruppe Anonymer Alkoholiker des schwulen und reichen Hippies Donnie sucht er die Trunksucht loszuwerden. Hier trifft er auf die herzkranke, übergewichtige Reba, die geschiedene Lebedame Corky, einen schwulen Straßenpoeten und den Deutschen Hans. Donnie stirbt an Aids. Der Therapeut berichtet von einem Freund, der Anfälle bekommt. Nach seiner Genesung hat John eine Halluzination mit Akrobaten im Park. Mit Annu hat er eine Liebesbeziehung, als er sie später wiedertrifft.

Plot:
The Film tells the story of the life of the famous cartoonist John Callahan. He suffers from paraplegia and is dependent on a wheelchair when he has a serious car accident while drunk. At the hospital rehab John meets the attractive Swedish woman Annu. In the group of anonymous alcoholics led by the gay and rich hippie Donnie he tries to get rid of his drunkenness. Here he meets Reba, an overweight woman with a heart condition and various other caracters, the divorced lady Corky, a gay street poet and the German Hans. Donnie dies of Aids. The therapist reports about a friend who has seizures. After his recovery John has a hallucination with acrobats in the park. He has a love affair with Annu when he meets her again later.
