Hat Epilepsie etwas mit dem Ausbruch und Verlauf des Ersten Weltkriegs zu tun? Im TV-Zweiteiler "Der verlorene Prinz" (BBC 2003) lebt Johnnie der jüngste Sohn des britischen Königs George V seiner Anfälle wegen vor der Öffentlichkeit verborgen in einem abgelegenen Cottage. Die britische Weltmacht zieht in den Krieg. Johnnie wird vergessen. Er stirbt im Anfall am ersten Tag der Friedensverhandlungen von Versaille. Zufall oder tiefere Bedeutung? Krise, Kontrollverlust, Katastrophe - in Johnnies Zustand und Schicksal spiegeln sich die Machtkonstellationen Europas am Anfang des vorigen Jahrhunderts.
from Toba Kerson's notes: Early in the story, John, maybe 4 years old, has a staring spell noticed by his caregiver etc. called Lala. She sees him beginning a seizure and picks him up looking frantically for a private place. Lays him on the floor and he has a seizure. ............. Ch 5 -Scene at grandfather’s funeral – Johnny begins to hyperventilate – Has another grand mal seizure which no one at the funeral sees. Lala says he has had a bad turn. Queen says, You must be with him all the time........... Ch. 9 – “A Banquet” She says to Lala “There is still his other illness, Lala. The fits . . . Ch. 10 – Johnny Spends Time with His Father” -Finally is allowed to visit with his father who is trying to deal with the commencement of WW I. Leaves Johnny with his parrot. Parrot flies all over through the kitchens and Johnny runs after parrot and has another seizure in the kitchen. Lala has been told that he is to have a private audience with the king but the king leaves him alone. Lala and the Queen find him. Lala cares for him and his mother cries . . .looks as if she can almost not bear to look at him. Queen says, “Is that what happens? I had no idea.” ....... Another seizure in bed. “A Sad Farewell” – Ch 10 – Seizure outside with Georgy – and more frequent and finally dies in bed – with mother. End of the film little discussion between Lala and Georgy about how he could be himself.
